Read prediction by prediction
Soothsayer 2000 made dystopian photomontages between 2008 and 2011, built from newspapers, tabloids and stock photos. In October 2026 each piece was read again, one prediction at a time, and checked against what has actually happened since, with a link to the article for every verdict.
The four verdicts
- Came true
- Something in the 2025 to 2026 news matches what the prediction shows, and an article says so.
- Still running
- The story in the prediction hasn't ended. It is still in the news, unresolved.
- Didn't hold up
- The clipping was wrong, or the fear it sold never happened. These stay in, marked plainly.
- Of its time
- History or gossip that dates the picture rather than predicting anything.
The rules
- Every verdict links to its article. Each card was fact-checked separately from the writing, and corrected where the check found errors.
- Where a clipping can be traced, the card says where it came from and what happened next.
- Deaths are reported as facts, with the numbers the sources give, never as drama.
- The art is not changed. Layers that were switched off in the finished pieces stay off.
- When the news moves, the cards are updated and the date changes.
Provenance
Dates come from the original Photoshop and print files, read from their own metadata.
