The US and Israel went to war with Iran on 28 February 2026. Reuters, citing the Washington Post, reported more than 850 Tomahawks fired in the first four weeks. On day one, Tomahawks hit an elementary school in Minab, killing about 156 people, 120 of them pupils. In September a UN fact-finding mission said there were reasonable grounds to believe the US committed a war crime there. The Pentagon's investigation has still not been published.
